Our process
How we build a deck
Six steps, the same on every project. The parts you never see after the boards go down get the most attention.

1. Estimate request and site measure
We measure the yard and the wall the deck attaches to, check slope, drainage, utilities and access for equipment, and note anything your HOA or city will ask about. You get options, not a pitch.

2. Design and written estimate
A layout with board direction, stairs, railing and any cover or pergola, plus a written estimate that names materials, fasteners, permit path and a build window. Changes are easy at this stage and expensive later.

3. Permit and HOA approval
In Boise and Nampa, decks more than 12 inches above grade need a building permit with framing and ledger details; Meridian uses size, attachment and exit-door rules. We prepare drawings and the HOA submittal package (materials, colors, dimensions).

4. Footings and framing
Footings go below Boise's 24-inch frost depth. The ledger is flashed and fastened to the house rim with structural fasteners; joists are spaced for the board you chose and taped where the manufacturer calls for it. Inspections happen before anything is covered.

5. Decking, railing and stairs
Boards are laid with the gaps your material needs for Treasure Valley temperature swings, railing posts are blocked into the frame, and stairs are built to consistent rise and run with lighting if you want it.

6. Final inspection and walkthrough
We close the permit, clean up, and walk the deck with you — including care for your material through freeze-thaw winters and dry summers.
