How much does a Trex deck cost in Boise?

Trex is capped composite, so a Trex deck falls in the 2026 composite market range of about $40–$62 per square foot installed. A raised 300-square-foot deck lands near $11,000–$21,000 before railing and stairs. The Trex line matters: Enhance sits at the low end, Transcend and Signature toward the top.

What does an installed Trex deck cost by size?

We price Trex through the general composite range rather than per line, because no reliable per-line installed price exists for the Treasure Valley. The range, $40–$62 per square foot for a finished platform, blends 2026 published local contractor pricing with national cost data. The table applies it to common deck sizes at each height using the same math as the deck calculator.

How do Trex's decking lines differ in price?

Trex ranks its own lines by budget rather than publishing prices. The decking page labels each line with a dollar-sign tier and a good-better-best tag, and that ranking is the honest way to compare them. The warranty terms are the limited residential terms Trex lists for each line.

Trex decking lines as Trex describes them (trex.com, read October 2026). Budget tiers and warranty terms are Trex's own; no per-line prices are published.
LineTrex's tier labelWhat Trex says about the boardLimited residential warranty
EnhanceGood · $–$$Scalloped profile, Trex's lightest composite board; heat-mitigating technology in five named colors25 years
SelectBetter · $$$Trex's 'most approachable line'; slightly thinner than Enhance, Transcend, Signature and Refuge boards35 years
TranscendBest · $$$$Deep wood-grain texture and multi-tonal colors50 years
Transcend LineageBest · $$$$Trex says it is more heat resistant than standard composite decking50 years
SignatureLuxury · $$$$$Photorealistic woodgrain modeled on engineered hardwood50 years
RefugePVC · $$$$Ignition-resistant PVC, engineered to resist flame spread and ignition50 years

Read the tiers against the composite range. Enhance and Select generally push a job toward the lower half of $40–$62; Transcend and Lineage toward the upper half. Signature sits above Transcend in Trex's own ranking, and Refuge is a PVC board, so a Refuge deck belongs in the PVC range of $55–$78 rather than the composite one.

One product rule affects cost on additions. Trex states that Select boards are slightly thinner than its other lines, so a Select deck extended in Transcend needs a planned break, such as a step down or a border board, rather than boards butted together. That adds framing and a few hours of labor.

How much of a Trex deck price is the boards?

Roughly half or less. Trex publishes an average material cost for a composite deck of $15–$30 per square foot, excluding Signature, and notes that actual costs vary with location, site and season. On a 16x20 deck that is $4,800–$9,600 in material. The installed raised range for the same deck is $12,000–$22,000.

The rest is everything under and around the boards: concrete footings dug below Boise's 24-inch frost line, a treated-lumber frame, ledger flashing, hidden fasteners, fascia over the rim joists, permit drawings and labor. Upgrading from Enhance to Transcend changes the board line on the invoice. It does not change the frame, the footings or the permit, which is why the gap between Trex lines shrinks once you look at the installed total.

  • Framing to the install guide: composite boards span less than wood, so joist spacing follows the line's installation instructions, and diagonal layouts need closer joists.
  • Fascia and border boards: Trex's warranty covers decking and fascia together, and matching fascia is a separate material line on a quote.
  • Railing: Trex sells railing under its own separate limited warranty. Railing is not in the table above and is priced at the site visit.
  • Stairs: composite treads usually need closer stringer spacing than wood. Stair count depends on height and is priced at the site visit.

Which Trex line handles Boise heat best?

Pick color first, then line. Boise averages about 55 days a year at 90°F or above and a July high of 92.7°F, so a south- or west-facing deck in a dark board gets uncomfortable underfoot. Trex says its SunComfortable technology cuts heat buildup by up to 35°F compared with its original boards, and that all decking still gets hot in direct sun, especially darker colors.

For hot climates, Trex's own advice is a lighter color or a Lineage board. In budget terms that gives two routes: Enhance in one of its heat-mitigating colors (Cinnamon Cove, Golden Hour, Honey Grove, Tide Pool and Pebble Beach), or Transcend Lineage at the higher tier. Both stay in the composite range, so the heat choice need not push you to PVC. Our full-sun decking guide compares heat claims across brands.

Winter is the other half of Boise's weather. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals count 108 nights a year at or below freezing, and composite boards expand and contract with temperature, so end gaps are set to the install-temperature chart in Trex's instructions. That is installer care, not an extra line item.

Do you need a TrexPro installer for the warranty?

Not for the product warranty, as Trex presents it. Trex lists its decking, fascia and cladding limited warranty separately from a TrexPro labor warranty, which is tied to its contractor program. The product warranty covers the boards; labor coverage depends on who installs them and on their own terms.

This page does not claim Valley Decks holds TrexPro or any other manufacturer status. If installer status matters to you, ask any contractor for current proof and read the TrexPro labor warranty before you sign. Either way, register the product warranty online with Trex after the deck is done; keep the invoice naming the line and color.

Is a Trex deck worth the cost over wood?

On a raised 16x20, the midpoint of the composite range sits about $6,000 above the midpoint for pressure-treated pine in the same model. Treated pine in Boise's sun and dry air needs cleaning and re-staining every two to three years. Price that from a local quote, multiply by the cycles you expect, and set it against the gap.

Warranty length is part of the answer. Trex's 2023 limited warranty gives Enhance 25 years, Select 35 and Transcend 50 on residential decks, and the same document covers fading and food-and-drink staining. Read the fine print, though: from year 11 a claim is prorated, and the remedy is replacement boards or a refund of the material price, not the cost of installing them. For how long composite actually lasts here, see composite deck lifespan in Idaho. For the brand comparison, see Trex against TimberTech. For all composite and PVC brands together, the composite deck cost guide has the broader picture.

What about Trex in a wildfire overlay?

Budget for PVC pricing if fire rating matters. Trex markets Refuge, a PVC board, as ignition-resistant, and the copies of the Trex Select California fire listing we found expired in June 2024. In Boise's Foothills wildland-urban interface area, ask for the current listing for the exact product and confirm with the city what applies before you choose a line.

How to get a Trex quote you can compare

  1. The Trex line and color on the quote, not 'Trex decking'.
  2. Joist spacing matched to that line's install guide, and the board layout (straight, diagonal, picture-frame border).
  3. Fastener type, fascia and border boards listed.
  4. Railing system and linear feet as a separate line, including whether it is a Trex railing product.
  5. Who registers the product warranty, and what labor coverage the installer offers in writing.

With the line named, you can compare two bids on the frame and labor rather than on the brand. Request an estimate when you want a measured number.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a 16x20 Trex deck?
A raised 16x20 Trex deck falls in the 2026 composite market range of about $12,000–$22,000 for the platform, $10,500–$20,000 at ground level. Trex's own materials-only average is $15–$30 per square foot excluding Signature. Railing and stairs are extra and priced at the site visit.
Which Trex line is the cheapest?
Enhance. Trex labels it its 'good' line with a $ to $$ budget tier and describes it as a step up from pressure-treated lumber. Its scalloped boards are Trex's lightest, and it carries a 25-year limited residential warranty that includes fade and stain coverage. Select is the next tier up.
Is Trex Transcend worth the extra over Enhance?
It depends on how hard the deck is used and how long you will own it. Transcend carries a 50-year limited residential warranty against Enhance's 25 years, and Trex sells it on a deeper wood-grain texture and richer colors. Since the frame, footings and permit cost the same either way, the installed gap is smaller than the board price gap.
Does Trex decking get too hot in Boise?
It can on a sunny deck in a dark color. Boise sees about 55 days a year at 90°F or hotter. Trex says SunComfortable boards build up to 35°F less heat than its original boards and recommends lighter colors or Lineage boards for hot climates. All decking still gets hot in direct sun.
Can I mix Trex Select with Transcend on one deck?
Not flush. Trex says Select boards are slightly thinner than Enhance, Transcend, Signature and Refuge. If you add onto a Select deck in another line, plan a deliberate break such as a step, a border board or a separate landing, and expect a little extra framing in the quote.
Do I need a TrexPro contractor to get the Trex warranty?
Trex lists its decking, fascia and cladding product warranty separately from the TrexPro labor warranty tied to its contractor program. Register the product warranty online after installation. If labor coverage through TrexPro matters to you, ask the contractor to show current program status in writing.
